archers' talk

last friday, my brother happened to come by and sleep over. since i just finished got out of school, i had yet to have dinner. we headed to McDo (because i was already starving and couldn't endure the wait entailed in dining in restaurants serving "real" food). we talked about the glasses sold by McDo and wonder at how amazing that those who are behind the whole thing included archery. we then talked about the prospect of training would-be archers here in davao. however, we were confronted with several obstacles. first, the cost of equipment. it is a sad truth that the equipments are expensive, exorbitant even, with prices ranging from PhP25,000-PhP100,000++, depending on the brand - this is just for the bow. the arrows are a thousand pesos a piece (but these are the prices back when i was still in college). more than the prices of these things, there is even the bigger problem of where to secure some gears such as the bowstring. these strings are hand-made and meticulously done with particluar attention to the nocking point detail.

hay..so even when we wanted to, it just seems kind of improbable at the moment. we contented ourselves with memories of archery training in college. we laso talked about celebrities who are archers, such as marvin agustin (who has his own range at home - nakakainggit) and charmaine arnaiz. we also talked about how one of the archers from the Philippine team (jasmine figueroa) figured in the last olympics (she didi not win any medals but in one of the ceding matches, she won against the number one female archer back then, natalia valeeva). we are most hopeful that our sisters (hehe), would remember us and our archery skills when they get to visit uncle sam sometime soon or in the future.

all told, it was a good conversation borne out of love for the game.
