sniper in the making

last wednesday, my cousin who's also so so into guns invited us to come join him on the shooting range. addicts that we are, my brother, father and myself went to the range.

we were expecting to shoot a handgun (because we brought with us our shiny new black matte para ordnance p13.45). to our astonishment, my cousin brought out a huge case (it would fit a keyboard, i think) and when he opened it, i could only gush at what i saw.

i never had any experience in firing rifles, even when we have an armalite. me fear is that, i would end up with a dislocated shoulder because of the recoil impact of such guns. but i could not help but try this 308 caliber rifle (CZ 700) and imagine myself as Angelina Jolie in that make-believe movie Wanted (make believe because the trajectory of thew bullets that they fire is simply impossible, not even magic would support it).

anyhow, i took a shot at the opportunity and fired 3 bullets. the feeling was exhilarating and i didn't even feel the high-poweredness of the rifle nor the great impact of the rifle's recoil on my shoulder. i felt so giddy when at 50 meters, i was able to hit the target :) and this led to a discussion of how great the gun is, which got my father thinking about buying one for himself (the price of the gun is equivalent to that of a one hectare ricefield, plus its scope which is being sold at US$ 1,700-4,000). and i told my father to quit his wishful thinking because, even if we had the money to buy one, where will he fire it? where can he have a range with at least 50 to 500 meter distance? ayyy...

oh well, when our excitement died down, it was then that i felt the whole right part of my body ache. i even have a welt on my shoulder. i can only say, this is a hobby which i cannot, as yet pursue, lest i want my right arm (the one i use for writing) useless for the bar.

for now, i'm content with the pistol. i just hope my schedule would clear up a bit so i could join the shootfest on the second saturday of August.
