last semester, i had about six subjects. out of the six, the grades are out for only two subjects at the moment.
what is tormenting is that, the teachers take too long to give out grades and it is freaking me out and giving me nightmares (this, i think, is in line with the school's intention to prepare the students for the bar examinations in all aspects, including the agonizing 6-7-months waiting period). the part where i have nightmares is also essentially a part of the bar examinations.
i have started asking myself last year, "what have i gotten myself into?" i had entertained such thoughts again early on in the first semester. luckily, my brain is trained to think of the MONETARY COST that it took my parents to send me to law school, considering that my parents pay only a fraction of my law school tuition fees for my college education (imagine, a year in law school is equivalent to a full four-year course in UP.)
so there, i stopped tinkering with such thoughts and trained my focus on something else (di pa rin sa law school), i.e. work. when that failed to rekindle my passion for lawyering (i did have one when i first started out. i was inspired by my oblicon teacher when she said, lawyering is a more fulfilling job than being a doctor. after all, when one is a lawyer, he/she can save not only another's LIFE, but also another's LIBERTY and PROPERTY, whereas a doctor only has the capacity to save LIVES. she sounded more persuasive than i could hope to capture her here.), i started to gather my old notes and books. i leafed through some of them, especially the subjects i really liked. then i remember how i introduced myself during those first meetings. when asked why i wanted to be a lawyer, i readily answer, "because i am an advocate for justice." tch.
i long to come full circle before i graduate from law school. i hope that by the time i reach my senior year, i would be afire again with that same passion i used to profess back when i was a freshman.

--ive never thought about our profession in this angle. that's an "upper" actually coz ive heard of comments to the effect that we're just contributing to the degradation of the already degraded justice system. hehe.
merry christmas yang! thanks for putting up with a makulit seatmate like me. hehehehe. *hugsh*
i hold on to that thought whenever i remember how much i wanted to be a doctor.
huh, you're not makulit, relative to other persons i've known. hehe.
happy holidays!
haha i'm still not convinced sorry...
with the law stories i've heard i don't think it's the saving part most lawyers are up to...
i believe its the monetary benefits they get from the profession... hehe
is it safe to equate lawyers with politicians? i hope nobody would bash me with some gavel in the head...hehe
to be fair, i guess not all lawyers are like this especially those who work in the PAO... that i say is noble...
as to the lawyers-are-after-the-monetary-benefits idea, that somehow is true. but contrary to popular belief, lawyers do deserve the compensation. just imagine having to take responsibility for the client's legal problems without being given the commensurate compensation. i think it is a disservice to the lawyers who really burn to save clients to say that they are after the client's money only. although, endangered species na ang mga ganyang abogado.
as to the idea that lawyers have the same difference with politicians is preposterous. this is because, politicians rob the masses regardless of the rate of tax that they pay and without doing any so-called public service to them at all, whereas lawyers render legal services to their clients even before they charge their clients and that they base the legal fees on the novelty of the case and of course, the capacity of the client to pay (socialized ba).
there, are you convinced now? lawyers are better off than politicians. =)
Merry Christmas lai =)
