the deepest and sweetest corruption

"In all those years, he was the beneficiary of the infinite generosity of women, but he was its victim too, because their forgiveness made possible the deepest and sweetest corruption of all, namely the idea that he was doing nothing wrong."

- Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses

i am well into the first 50 pages of the book (ebook) and i'm hooked. i've been lusting after this particular work of Rushdie's primarily because i liked his "The Midnight's Children" and of course, because "The Satanic Verses" was so controversial back in the Arab Nation where it was banned (i don't know if it's still banned up to now).

and i have promised myself to read only a maximum of five pages per day. i hope i can have enough self-restraint :)
