I.P.S.C. vs. I.D.P.A.

I.P.S.C. stands for International Practical Shooting Confederation, while I.D.P.A. means International Defensive Shooting Association.

shooting matches under the IPSC rules can be roughly distinguished from the IDPA's matches in terms of the access one has to the stages/courses of fire in the said matches. in IPSC, one is allowed to do a "walkthrough" the courses of fire before shooting, while in IDPA, one CANNOT do a "walkthrough" prior to the shooting. the main reason for disallowing the walkthrough in the latter is that, the course should simulate real-life scenarios and thus, do away with all the preparations that is made under IPSC because in real-life, one does not get to even gear up (wear protective glasses and ear muffs) when faced with a real burglar for instance.

i am trained under the IPSC rules and have never tried shooting under IDPA rules. there is an ongoing competition here in davao today until sunday under the IDPA rules. i have been invited to join and although i am thrilled, i just could not. first of all, i don't have enough money for the registration fee (my financier is somewhere in luzon at this point and he's not coming home until monday). second, we (my father/financier and i) still don't have a handgun fit for shooting. we own a glock which for me, is not suitable for that because it's trigger weighs a ton and its grip is simply not for me. thirdly, my financier/father is not here to assist me if and when a technicality/difficulty arises such as a bullet jammed in the barrel or simply doing the menial task of manually loading the magazines. and lastly, i have an exam tomorrow. tch.

oh well, i'll catch up with shooting when i'm out of law school.
